it’s my birthday tomorrow, and i’m feeling kind of old. for one thing, my knees are creaky, i eat oatmeal, and i wear turtlenecks… but that’s beside the point. i feel like i’ve lived a very long time. almost two decades, in fact, but it feels like 150 years. i was thinking about the songs (and the people that go along with them) that have made me who i am. most of them have been mistakes, to be quite honest. but there have been a few that have stuck and some who have even changed me for the better. in one of my favorite movies, high fidelity, john cusack has a scene where he talks about how he arranges his music autobiographically. and i think i’d like to do the same. starting sophomore year, with my first broken heart. there’s a story behind all of these; if you want to know, they’re yours for the asking.

it’s been a long time/never since i listened to death cab’s “plans” album all the way straight through. i thought i loved the songs individually but the sequence of the songs is a work of art in and of itself. do it… it will change the way you listen to music.
